Choosing the Right Glass for Your Windows

Single glazed, double glazed, tinted or toughened — what each option means for your home.

Glass is half the performance of a window — the frame protects it, but the glass does the work of insulation, safety and noise reduction.

Single glazed glass is the standard, cost-effective option suitable for most homes. Double glazed units (two panes with a sealed air gap) dramatically improve insulation and noise reduction — ideal for main roads or extreme weather.

Toughened (tempered) glass is recommended for larger panels, ground floor windows and doors, as it's far more impact resistant and breaks into small granules rather than sharp shards if it does break.

Tinted or reflective glass can reduce heat and glare in west-facing rooms, at a slight trade-off in natural light. We help you balance these factors during your free site visit.
